GOYFF Seeking New AmeriCorps VISTA members

We seek highly motivated individuals to serve as AmeriCorps VISTA members in the coming year to provide leadership and new capacity in areas that are of critical need to Arizona.

The Governor's Office of Youth, Faith & Family (GOYFF) is a cabinet level agency that administers state and federal grant programs and engages stakeholders across all sectors to improve services and service delivery to Arizona citizens. Through a trauma-informed lens, GOYFF develops programs, coalitions, strategies, and initiatives to support key Governor priorities. GOYFF also serves as the Governor's faith based office and administers the state's AmeriCorps program.

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates are college graduates (preferred) highly skilled in oral and written communication; possess strong interpersonal, presentation and public relations skills and will interact with diverse populations. Ideal candidates are team players that have the ability to build the capacity of organizations and systems.

EIGHT AVAILABLE POSITIONS TO BEGIN IN JANUARY/FEBRUARY

Team Leader

The VISTA Leader will play a strategic role in member recruitment, development and retention. The Leader will plan and conduct on-site orientation and training, organize program mandated days-of-service projects, facilitate information sharing and career learning and support VISTA assignment completion. IMPORTANT: To qualify, you must have served a complete and successful term of service in Peace Corps or AmeriCorps State, National, NCCC or VISTA.

Human Trafficking

The VISTA will assist with and support the coordination of a the state’s overarching victims’ service plan as well as evaluate and report data to the governor. The VISTA will also promote greater collaboration with law enforcement, state agencies and the community-at-large, serving to raise public awareness about victims’ services, restitution and prevention. Additionally, following the Arizona Human Trafficking Council’s guidelines for developing a regional response to youth sex trafficking, the VISTA member will serve as a capacity builder that supports the coordinated response to sex trafficking which would limit additional trauma to a victim while holding perpetrators accountable.

Domestic Violence

The VISTA will work to increase community coordinated response to sexual and domestic violence by creating and running regional focus groups of service providers across the state. The objective of the focus groups will be to facilitate resource sharing, technical assistance, solution finding, and relationship building. The focus groups will also serve as the foundation for a needs assessment on how the state can better support providers. The VISTA member will also develop expertise on existing domestic violence and sexual assault legislation, training, collaboration, and services across Arizona.

Arizona Service Enterprise Initiative

The VISTA will lead and coordinate the third year of the Arizona Service Enterprise Initiative and will work to: 1) Recruit/engage new Arizona Service Enterprise Initiative partners; 2) Deliver webinar series; 3) Manage training cohorts; 4) Build, recruit and develop training for the GOYFF Volunteer Program. The VISTA member will conduct community outreach and marketing efforts, coordinate organizations wishing to participate in training cohorts, and deliver trainings for state-level partners.

Arizona Angel Initiative – Phoenix

The VISTA will partner with area law enforcement to promote state-wide expansion of the Angel Initiative. The member will assist in developing a project plan for increasing awareness and participation in the program by developing contact information and providing outreach to: government entities, non-profit organizations, service providers, community groups and faith organizations that will serve as stakeholders of the program. The member will attend community and business events to gather key contact information, meet with interested organizations to present substance abuse awareness information and details of the Angel Initiative. The member will also table at local events, develop long-term community relationships, and analyze the project plan to update and/or revise where needed. Lastly, the VISTA will collect data on all Angel Initiative sites, aggregate data for Arizona and provide training and technical assistance to all sites.

Arizona Angel Initiative – Florence

The Angel Initiative VISTA member will receive guidance from the Pinal County Attorney and Pinal County Sheriff liaisons to promote county-wide expansion of the Angel Initiative. The VISTA member will increase awareness and participation in the Angel Initiative by partnering with treatment providers, community stakeholders, the probation department, individuals seeking treatment for substance use disorder and other public/private partnerships in the community. The Angel Initiative VISTA will also serve as a liaison between GOYFF and the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office. The member will provide outreach to raise awareness about the program to non-profit organizations, service providers, community groups and faith organizations that will serve as stakeholders of the program. The member will also attend community and business events and table at local events to develop long-term community relationships.

Substance Abuse Prevention/Grants Coordinator

The VISTA member will train stakeholders, community partners, government entities and non-profit organizations in Arizona on the Prescription Drug Misuse and Abuse Rx Tool kit and other substance abuse prevention trainings. The member will expand and strengthen relationships with key community stakeholders by attending relevant community meetings on substance misuse and abuse. The member will become knowledgeable of grant solicitation sites which may include federal and foundation funding and participate in grant writing trainings and webinars to develop this skill set. The VISTA will conduct research for grant opportunities for GOYFF and assist in the development and writing of grant opportunities. The VISTA will also conduct outreach for potential grant reviewers for GOYFF and develop a database where resumes and applications are housed. Lastly, the member will conduct outreach and provide education for resource and exhibit tables to further the mission of the office.

Military Family Resource Network Developer - Arizona Coalition for Military Families

The VISTA member will guide the expansion of the Arizona Military Family Resource Network. The member will be assigned to ACMF and through growing the network, will strengthen access to resources, employment and other opportunities for Arizona’s 625,000+ service members, veterans and their families. Partners in the network will address a range of issues affecting the military and veteran population and include resources for homelessness, employment and mental health issues.
