Arizona Recognizes Volunteer Week 2025

PHOENIX — Governor Katie Hobbs proclaimed April 20-26, 2025, as Arizona Volunteer Week to thank national service volunteers for impacting communities and tackling our nation's most pressing challenges.

WHEREAS, National Volunteer Week recognizes the hard work, dedication, and passion of volunteers and national service members across the United States; and

WHEREAS, cross-sector collaboration with businesses, faith-based and nonprofit organizations, foundations, and individuals within communities is vital to making a positive impact across the state; and

WHEREAS, volunteerism is a critical part of civic engagement, as volunteers play an essential role in addressing society’s most significant challenges and helping to create stronger, more interconnected communities through their everyday actions; and

WHEREAS, volunteering can be formal, such as helping others through organizations, or informal, which involves assisting neighbors with tasks like house sitting, watching each other’s children, or lending tools; and

WHEREAS, more than 76 million, or 28%, of the U.S. population age 16 and older formally volunteered with an organization, and more than 138 million people, or 54%, informally helped their neighbors, exemplifying the compassion and generosity of the American spirit of volunteerism; and

WHEREAS, nearly two million Arizonans volunteer, across a number of areas - to tutor children, ensure access to food and shelter, and help individuals secure employment - and more than three million Arizona residents informally helped their neighbors by providing rides, picking up groceries, and assisting with household chores; and

WHEREAS, in 2023, over 4,100 AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors Volunteers in Arizona enhanced community bridge-building skills by uniting to address local issues, foster relationships, promote mutual respect, and contribute to resilient, thriving communities; and

WHEREAS, Arizona is committed to supporting and celebrating the efforts of volunteers who strengthen communities and contribute to the vision of an Arizona for Everyone.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Katie Hobbs, Governor of the State of Arizona, do hereby proclaim April 20 - 26, 2025, as

ARIZONA VOLUNTEER WEEK
