Substance Abuse Block Grant (SABG)

The Substance Abuse Block Grant (SABG) is awarded through the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) and administered by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). GOYFF currently invests $4.9 million to organizations in Arizona to implement substance use prevention and early intervention services to youth, adults, families, and communities. SABG dollars allow organizations to develop and implement evidence-based drug prevention programs; screening and assessment of behavioral health and substance abuse.

In addition, funding also supports the Trauma-Informed Substance Abuse Prevention Program (TISAPP). The program was created to support and expand the utilization of the principles of trauma-informed care (TIC) in a comprehensive approach to preventing substance abuse. This is done through culturally competent evidence-based programs and promising practices, which focus on increasing protective factors and building resilience while increasing awareness of the impact of trauma. Organizations that have received funding have developed programs that address the issue of the use and misuse of at least one of the following substances: vaping, alcohol, wax pens, marijuana, polysubstance, or other community-identified drug trends.

If you have questions about this program or would like to be connected to grantees who are currently providing prevention and educational programming in your community, please email your name, contact information, location, and requested programming/training to Alfreda Moore, Program Administrator.
