Governor's Youth Commission FAQ

What is the Governor's Youth Commission (GYC)?

The Governor's Youth Commission (GYC) is a council under the GOYFF that aims to encourage high school students in grades 10-12 from all 15 counties in Arizona to participate in volunteerism and service learning. Through these activities, the GYC aims to promote healthier communities, raise awareness of community issues, and encourage civic participation among the youth.

How do I apply?

Applications to participate in the 2025-2026 academic year will open in Spring 2025.

What's the application process for the GYC?

The application consists of three short essays, a letter of recommendation, and a resume. Select applicants will be asked to partake in an interview a couple of weeks after applications close. New members will be notified of acceptance in mid-summer. See the Information Packet for detailed information.

How do you select members of the GYC?

The GYC comprises 40-50 high school students (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) from across Arizona. Each year, two or three members representing 14 of the 15 counties outside Maricopa County are selected to serve on the commission for the academic year. The rest of the commissioners reside in Maricopa County.
