PHOENIX — The Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family (GOYFF) has awarded approximately $5 million in grant funding to 28 organizations across Arizona to expand the utilization of the principles of trauma-informed care in a comprehensive approach to preventing substance abuse efforts. The Trauma-Informed Substance Abuse Prevention Program (TISAPP) grant will invest in programs to implement culturally competent, evidence-based programs and promising practices that focus on increasing protective factors and building resilience for youth, adults, and families while raising awareness of the impact of trauma.
“Ensuring Arizona entities have the necessary tools to support their communities is crucial as we create an Arizona for everyone,” said GOYFF Cabinet Executive Officer (CEO) Tonya Hamilton. “I look forward to seeing our partner's efforts to prevent substance abuse by amplifying early intervention strategies to enhance support for our citizens across the State.”
During the 12-month grant cycle, awardees from urban, rural, and tribal communities will collaborate with other agencies to foster community engagement and support the sustainability of their respective prevention programs.

Funding from the TISAPP grant is through the Substance Abuse Block Grant (SABG), awarded by the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) and administered by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to implement substance use prevention and early intervention services to youth, adults, and families in the promotion of public health.
