Governor's Office Awards $639,000 to Support Sexual Assault Services

July 20, 2021

PHOENIX — The Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family has awarded $639,000 in grant funding to eight Arizona programs to expand sexual assault intervention efforts and increase support for victims of sexual assault. Sexual assault is a serious public health problem affecting millions of people across the United States each year. In addition to the immediate emotional costs to victims, sexual assault can lead to long-term, devastating health effects.

“Arizona is committed to expanding sexual assault intervention efforts and strengthening the continuum of victims services to better support and protect our communities, families, and children,” said Director Maria Cristina Fuentes. “This funding provides critical support for sexual assault victims across Arizona and I look forward to seeing the impact of these dollars in communities statewide.”

The Sexual Assault Services Program (SASP) is the first federal funding stream solely dedicated to the provision of direct intervention and related assistance for victims of sexual assault. Funding is used to support programs in Arizona's urban, rural, and tribal communities that provide core services, direct intervention, and related assistance to victims of sexual assault. Services include, but are not limited to: programs that offer sexual violence and domestic violence intervention services; medical services; criminal justice system support; as well as social support systems.
