PHOENIX — Governor Hobbs has proclaimed February 2023 as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month to recognize Arizona's commitment to providing training and outreach to community members, schools, and families about healthy relationships among young people.

WHEREAS, teen dating violence crosses race, gender, and socioeconomic lines; and
WHEREAS, one in three adolescents in the United States is a victim of physical, emotional, or verbal abuse from a dating partner; and
WHEREAS, nearly one in 11 female teens and one in 15 male teens reported experiencing physical dating violence in the last year; and
WHEREAS, approximately one in nine female and one in 36 male high school students report having experienced sexual dating violence in the last year; and
WHEREAS, 26 percent of women and 15 percent of men who were victims of contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime first experienced these or other forms of violence by that partner before age 18; and
WHEREAS, the Governor's Youth Commission raises awareness about healthy relationships among young people throughout the state through education and outreach efforts to further prevent dating violence; and
WHEREAS, it is important to continuously raise awareness in local communities, schools, and with family members to help them recognize when youth are exhibiting signs of dating violence.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Katie Hobbs, Governor of the State of Arizona, do hereby proclaim February 2023 as
TEEN DATING VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND AWARENESS MONTH
