PHOENIX — The Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family (GOYFF) has awarded $4.7 million in grant funding to 27 Arizona programs to enhance and increase parental or caregiver involvement in substance abuse prevention for one or numerous substances.  Funding will be used to support programs in Arizona's urban, rural, and tribal communities.

“Arizona is grateful for the ongoing work of partners statewide to prevent substance abuse,” said Director Maria Cristina Fuentes. “Parents and caregivers play a critical role in substance abuse prevention and education. I’m looking forward to seeing the impact this funding will have on families across our state.”

The Arizona Parents Commission on Drug Education and Prevention grant is funded by State of Arizona funds through the Drug Treatment and Education Fund. The Drug Treatment and Education Fund, established by A.R.S. §13-901.02, receives 7% of tax revenue collected on spirituous liquors and 18% of tax revenue collected on vinous and malt liquor. The Arizona Parents Commission on Drug Education and Prevention receives 50% of the monies deposited in the Drug Treatment and Education Fund to provide support for programs that will increase and enhance parental involvement and will increase education about the serious risks and public health problems caused by the abuse of alcohol and controlled substances.
